5 Tech Grants for Kansas City Nonprofits

Kansas City area nonprofits have seen growth in funding over the last several years, but there’s always room for more — especially in the area of technology. If your KC nonprofit is looking for help with funding for tech projects, devices or learning, there are many area organizations with the funds and expertise to lend a hand.
Kansas City Digital Inclusion Fund
The Kansas City Digital Inclusion Fund helps area nonprofits with devices, IT support and courses designed to build participants’ digital skills. Administered through the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, the fund has helped organizations like the Black Family Technology Awareness Association, the Welcome Wellness Health Education Resource Center and World Builders Academy.

T-Mobile HQ Grants
T-Mobile supports nonprofits in the greater Kansas City area that have an impact on digital access. The grants, which range from $25,000 to $50,000, go to nonprofits in support of connectivity, digital literacy training and career pathways in technology.
The grants have supported organizations like Operation Breakthrough in helping under-resourced teens with workforce development and entrepreneurship experiences and Girl Scouts of NE Kansas & NW Missouri in introducing girls of every age to STEM/STEAM.

Patterson Family Foundation
Founded by Neal Patterson, the late Cerner CEO and co-founder, and his wife, Jeanne, the Patterson Family Foundation invests in rural communities in Kansas and western Missouri. The foundation supports rural communities in a variety of ways, including through high school career and technical education grants. They also have funding for innovation in community engagement. If your nonprofit is in a rural area near Kansas City, the Patterson Family Foundation is a great option to explore.

Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation
The Kauffman Foundation offers a range of grants for nonprofits in the Kansas City region (Cass, Clay, Jackson, Johnson, Platte, and Wyandotte counties). Grant amounts can be anywhere from $100,000 to $250,000 and are meant to support a nonprofit’s move toward internal effectiveness and long-term stability.
Of course, solid technology practices and investments are a key part of building a strong nonprofit that’s around to serve the area for years to come. For IT planning and cybersecurity efforts, the Kauffman Foundation can help with funding for things like:
- Audits of technology needs
- Cybersecurity safeguard training
- Database design
