Giving Deserving Kansas Citians a Night Off Life

These sentiments — just a few of the comments I received from our honored guests — are exactly what I hoped they would feel at our “Night Off Life” event. There was a moment when I walked through the suites and saw everyone smiling, laughing, eating ice cream, wearing hats and chains, collecting autographs, and simply living in the moment. People were getting a break from the stress and weight they carry every day. That was the entire purpose behind the Night Off Life concept.
I’ve always followed what I learned in Bananas owner Jesse Cole’s book, Fans First, for inspiration as a leader. The book teaches leaders to take unconventional approaches to stand out in the market and inspire those around you. Because one of my core values has always been to support the Kansas City community (and we’ve done that in many typical ways), this event was guided by the creative approach the Bananas have taken to entertainment and baseball.
The Savannah Bananas certainly delivered the good time I was hoping for as well, defeating the just-as-much-fun Indianapolis Clowns 4-2 amidst all the entertaining antics we’ve come to expect from the Bananas. A special thanks goes out to their marketing team, who made sure that Princess Potassia, the Man-Nanas, and Split stopped by to see our guests and make them feel special.

Our Corporate Technologies group of volunteers had just as much fun as our guests, enjoying the unique experience of both the game itself and the amazing views of the action from Kauffman Stadium’s Dugout Suites. Another big thanks goes to the fantastic staff from both the Bananas and the stadium who helped make the day amazing for our heroes.
All in all, the event was a great time for everyone involved, and we sincerely hope this won’t be the last Night Off Life event we host! Stay tuned here for future opportunities to nominate someone who needs a break from their struggles to get a night off.
